Challenge:

ERM Power took on a project to identify the location of an underground pipeline in relation to the proposed alignment for a high voltage transmission line.

Solutions:

ERM Power consulted with Mipela GeoSolutions Services Team to produce a series of maps from as-constructed data which had been previously captured using the alignment sheet generator.

Result:

ERM Power will use the information to assist with alignment changes to minimise the impact on the existing pipeline and optimise the route selection.

Mipela GeoSolutions Services Team deliver impact mapping for ERM Power

ERM Power is an energy company that operates electricity sales, generation, gas exploration and procurement businesses. ERM Power was recruited by the Western Power’s Mid-West Energy Project (MWEP) to determine the new powerlines’ impact on the existing Neerabup Gas pipeline assets.

The primary focus for ERM Power was to identify the location of the underground pipeline in relation to the proposed alignment for the MWEP high voltage transmission line. This involved reviewing all metallic infrastructures for all parts of the pipeline network including valves, CP test points, earthing points and anode beds.

ERM Power consulted with Mipela GeoSolutions Services Team to produce a series of maps from as-constructed data which had been previously captured using the alignment sheet generator.

Each intersection was analysed and the results were supplied to ERM Power as a table with the location information of each crossing between the power line and pipeline illustrated. Additional maps were produced showing the location of assets within 500 metres of the proposed alignment.

ERM Power will use the information to assist MWEP with alignment changes to minimise the impact on the existing pipeline and optimise the route selection.
