Santos’ involvement with a major natural gas project identified the need for a dedicated GIS Coordinator role due to the GIS and mapping requirements increasing as the project developed.
Mipela GeoSolutions, as part of the professional GIS Project Services, have provided a GIS Coordinator to execute the role, which is responsible for a variety mapping tasks and spatial data management.
The specialist services delivered by Mipela GeoSolutions have enabled Santos and the GLNG Project to solve complex issues and progress forward.
Santos has been providing oil and gas to the Australian and Asian markets since 1954. They are the major shareholder in the Gladstone Liquefied Natural Gas Operations Limited (GLNG OPL) project.
GLNG OPL is a four way joint venture to build a world first project to convert coal seam gas from the central Queensland gas fields into liquefied natural gas. The project will consist of a pipeline approximately 420km in length from the Fairview production field north of Roma to the Curtis Island processing plant near Gladstone.
The GLNG Gas Transmission Pipeline Project requires engagement of many disciplines to develop and refine the pipeline route to mitigate the effects of land owner, cultural heritage, environment and construction. There are complex issues within each of these disciplines, with many of the solutions provided by GIS analysis.
During the life of the project, many stakeholders have been engaged to provide a variety of reports including Environmental Management Plans, Environmental Impact Statements and Geotechnical reports. Datasets provided with these reports are in different formats and structure. GLNG OPL identified the need for these datasets to be streamlined for final design purposes.
The GLNG team has relied heavily on the resources of Santos to provide the mapping requirements for the project. GLNG OPL identified the need for a dedicated GIS Coordinator role due to the GIS and mapping requirements increasing.
Mipela GeoSolutions have now provided a GIS Coordinator to execute this role. The role is responsible for a variety of different tasks including daily mapping requirements, technical document review and spatial data management. The specialist services delivered have enabled Santos and the GLNG Project to solve complex issues and progress forward.
