Toowoomba Regional Council

X-Info DBYD provides the tool to Manage and Protect Underground Assets

Toowoomba Regional Council was formed in 2008 by the amalgamation of seven shires with Toowoomba City. Toowoomba Regional Council’s area extends west from the Dividing Range to just beyond Cecil Plains. Northwards it reaches beyond Yarraman, and southwards beyond Clifton. The council is responsible for managing and maintaining underground assets, including drains, sewer and water pipes within the region.

Toowoomba Regional Council was manually processing all Dial Before You Dig (DBYD) requests in an attempt to protect their underground assets. This process was time consuming, and there was risk of potential damage to their assets and to public safety.

The labour intensive process also limited the council to identify high risk areas and analyse activity for DBYD enquiries. Being able to view and report on requests was necessary for managing their assets appropriately.

In August 2010 the automated response system X-Info DBYD was customised and implemented at Toowoomba Regional Council.

The system has enabled all DBYD requests to be processed within a 5 minute turn around, providing efficient and consistent responses. Toowoomba Regional Council also has the ability to generate statistic and spatial reports to track and monitor trends and results.

They now have the tool to manage and protect their assets.
