Challenge:

Materials tracking in a 450,000 tonne environmental remediation project

Solutions:

With over 450,000 tonnes of contaminated waste requiring extensive  tracking and management, a [Mipela configured X-Info Suite] customised materials tracking system was developed to ensure all wastes were managed correctly. At the core of the system was an online database accessible from desktop PCs and a custom app on smart phones.

Result:

Finally, the system’s integrated reporting function allowed the generation of automatic reports immediately following the completion of each stockpile. Tabulated data, photos and PDF files were consolidated into a single report in compliance with client and government regulations.

With over 450,000 tonnes of contaminated waste requiring extensive tracking and management, a customised materials tracking system was developed to ensure all wastes were managed correctly. At the core of the system was an online database accessible from desktop PCs and a custom app on smart phones.

The database allowed each excavation and stockpile to be accurately identified and classified through the automatic collection of rich metadata including photos, PDF reports, and field data. This data was captured through automatic import tools along with a flexible smart phone app.

The system eliminated paper-based forms and traditional spreadsheets, significantly reducing data errors. The automated smart phone app ensured waste trucks dispatched from site were always sent to the correct destination with the appropriate paperwork. An automatic QA checklist ensured key environmental inspections were performed to protect the environment.

Data was also captured from external sources, including from the waste truck fleet GPS tracking system. System alerts quickly identified trucks with mechanical issues or those that had diverted from their default haul route, dramatically reducing reaction times to potential issues.

Finally, the system’s integrated reporting function allowed the generation of automatic reports immediately following the completion of each stockpile. Tabulated data, photos and PDF files were consolidated into a single report in compliance with client and government regulations.
